I love the look of the GroVia newborn AIO. It is so adorable. The SURF color is gorgeous. It is very trim and does not create the bubble butt that many cloth diapers do. I actually chose this newborn diaper to wear on my son during his professional photo shoot.

I really like that it has a snap down front to fit underneath the umbilical cord stump. I had very few diapers that I could wear on him from birth as most diapers rubbed against his stump. The GroVia fit well and caused no irritation. I was able to use this diaper since we got home from the hospital at two days old. With most all other diapers I had to wait until he was one week old and the stump had fallen off.
The tongue-shaped soaker is attached at the back and when the diaper is snapped down, the soaker sticks out of the front. You have to fold it down in the front. I would imagine this would be uncomfortable for little boys. My son never had any irritation from the folded soaker but I only used it snapped down for a week. When not snapped down the soaker lays flat.
The diaper did leak often around the legs. Never poop, but pee did leak out. I think it is caused by the rigid leg elastics. The way they bunch up creates spaces that urine could run out. These elastics also caused red marks on his legs.

I did not quite trust the diaper for at night or for going out of the house because I was afraid it would leak and he would need his clothes changed. It is a great diaper for at home and for photo shoots though.
Like most All-In-Ones, the GroVia takes a long time to dry. I do not have an efficient dryer but after an hour I still had to hang it to finish drying. Air drying makes the interior cotton very crunchy and rough.
My son was 8 lbs 14 oz at birth so the diaper fit him very well right away. He is now 6 weeks old and 11.5 lbs. It still fits around the waist but the rise is too low in the back. His little bum crack shows when he moves so I think it is time to put it away since I don't want any poop explosions.

| 11.5 lbs/6 weeks. Very trim but too low in the back now. |
The size range is great for a newborn diaper (5 to 12 lbs). My son was big at birth and I still had about 5 weeks of use with it. If you have small babies than the GroVia would last a couple months for sure. This is an important aspect when choosing newborn diapers as you want as much use as possible from your cloth.

I love that it snaps down for the umbilical cord!
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors that the GroVia newborns come in. Surf and Cloud are my favorites. The fit of this diaper looks great! Thanks for an honest review! Anne Sweden
ReplyDeleteI like that it doesn't cause the bubble butt!
ReplyDeleteI like how trim it is. My last baby was also 8lb 14oz so it is good to know that it fits on those bigger babes:)

I am so happy I found this review. I have always used sposies at first with my newborns. But was considering grovia newborns with this one. I am so thankful for your honest review. I love grovia hybrids. I love the snap down on this AIO.
ReplyDeleteI love that it snaps down from the umbilical cord and love how trim it is
ReplyDeleteOoo I like that the liner is organic!
ReplyDeleteNice to know it fits a bit larger than some other newborn dipes. Pity about the leaking, but I know one mama's leaky diaper can be another mama's perfect fit!
ReplyDeleteI also want to add I've bought from Audrey at Buttercup Baby before, and her customer service is phenomenal! Great shop!
DeleteI learned that buttercup baby is run by a wahm :)
ReplyDeleteI learned that it has a snap down front. I love that feature. Seems like it would be a great first diaper for a newborn!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute diaper! I love that it has a pretty big range in size for a newborn diaper. It's good to know that it can leak. I really like the snap-down front, it really does seem super useful as a diaper for those first few weeks!
ReplyDeleteI love that it has organic liners!
ReplyDeleteGood to know that it leaked for you (not good for us because we have a few stashed away for #2 coming this fall...). I do like the snap down on it too but that's a bummer about leaking and the red marks :/
ReplyDeleteI like that it's made with biodegradable TPU!

love that it has a snap down for umbilical cord!
ReplyDeleteI really that it snaps down for the umbilical cord and fits under the belly there
ReplyDeleteHe is cute in the little diaper I love that it has the umbilical snap down. Thanks for the warning that it might not fit to the full 12 pounds
ReplyDeleteI like that it snaps down for the umbilical cord (can't believe that ALL newborn cloth diapers don't)
ReplyDeleteI learned and liked that it had a snap down for UC! Also learned that it takes a little longer to dry than other diapers.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of their OS AIO diapers, and those take a bit of time to dry as well! But I am a fan of the umbilical cord snap down :)
ReplyDeletei really like the surf color too. and i like that it fits under the UC
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to read that even with your big baby, you were able to use it for 5 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI liked that the lining is organic cotton.
ReplyDeleteI just love that this is small enough to fit the newborn stage!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about folding down the soaker pad in the front when snapped down... good to know for comparisons!!
ReplyDeleteI really like that it is all in one and the snaps are the same color as the fabric, and it is more convenient for newborns who still do have there stumps to protect.
ReplyDeleteI like how you can use the diaper from birth and up. It makes it well worth the investment, and a lot cheaper then throw aways. Thank you
ReplyDeletei like that it Snaps down below umbilical stump thats awesome i aslo learn that it might leak good to know!
ReplyDeleteThe organic liners seem particularly wonderful since I've heard too many sad stories of moms putting microfiber against baby skin!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! Nice to know that they are trim :)
ReplyDeleteI like that they're trim. They're so cute. I have one but I'd love to have more for my LO due in late September. It's also good to know that the leg elastic could potentially cause problems. I'll have to keep my eyes open for that. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love that they snap down around the umbilical cord!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the grovia newborn had an umbilical snap. That's nice.
ReplyDeleteI like that the front snaps down.
ReplyDeleteI love that it can snap down and the colors are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing the Grovia diaper for a while because it is organic, AIO and trim. I appreciate you sharing about it leaking and also that it fit great under the umbilical cord stump! I would have liked to see how you comapared the snap-close feature to a velcro close diaper as that is one of my dilemmas as well. My favorite part of the review is seeing the fit on the baby! Your little guy is so cute. :) And I like that you shared his weight/age in the pictures.
ReplyDeleteit snaps down for the cord! That's so awesome. The color is gorgeous as well.
ReplyDeleteI love that it snaps down!
ReplyDeleteGood to know about the sizing. I've been wondering if I should get newborn sizes or just go with smalls. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove that there's no cover required.
ReplyDeletei didn't know that it was TPU instead of PUL
ReplyDeleteI love that snaps down for the umbilical cord and that is organic!
ReplyDeleteI love the AIO feature and the snap down front!
ReplyDeleteI do like that it fits a newborn, but too bad that it leaks!
ReplyDeletei like that it is Organic Cotton and i love that color so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteIt is really too bad that the diaper leaks - I've been looking into cloth diapers and I find that to be an issue with many of them. The color of this one is really appealing though, and I still like the idea of a cloth diaper!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the honest review. I would love to try these diapers next time around, but wasn't sure on the price. I have never seen them less then $20. I will order a couple if I have a third baby to try though.
ReplyDeleteI like that they are under $20 and the company is owned by a WAHM.
ReplyDeleteI really liked that it folds down for the umbilical cord stump! This looks like a great newborn diaper (little leaks aside :) ).
