{My Review}

I chose the "Maria" gift set for my review. The Udder Cover is two shades of lilac with a coordinating lilac Milkband and 4 white nursing pads. I love the pretty print and colors of the cover.

Udder Covers

I love breastfeeding and am not shy to nurse my baby wherever and whenever he needs me. At home I do not use a cover and when I am around close friends or wearing nursing shirts I do not use a cover. All other times when I am in public I prefer to be fully covered. To be honest it is my belly I don't want hanging out there for everyone to see rather than fear of my breasts showing. They are easier to hide! ;)

I love the Udder Covers. The strap goes around your neck and is adjustable so you can choose how much space you need for gazing down at your baby. The rigid neckline and strap enables you to see to get your baby latched on without worrying that the cover will fall off and flash passerbys.

An Udder Cover is so great to have especially in the early breastfeeding stages as you get used to latching your baby. Often you have to latch and unlatch repeatedly until you get it right. I personally did not want the added stress of worrying if my breast was showing while trying to get my crying infant to latch correctly.

Last weekend, we went to a birthday party and barbeque. My Udder Cover was so useful. There were many people around and I was completely comfortable covering up and nursing my baby. No one could see anything and I did not have to worry if he popped off the breast unexpectedly.

I had also received an Udder Cover from a friend for my baby shower for my first son. I used it for 13 months, the entire time I breastfed him. I was also using a nipple shield that whole time and the cover definitely made me feel more secure nursing in public as I always had to take time to get the shield on and off. Which is not the most discreet thing to do. The cover made nursing in public much more relaxed.

MilkBands

The MilkBrands nursing bracelet allows you to keep track of how long you nursed and at what time, by sliding the plastic markers along the silicone bracelet. You flip the bracelet inside-out to keep track of which breast you last fed on. One side of the bracelet says LEFT and the other side says RIGHT. The writing for "left" is lowered and "right" is raised so you can tell which side you have it on even in the dark. Love that feature!

At our local hospital they want you to keep an accurate account of how long and at what time you last breastfed. They give you a paper and every time you breastfeed you have to write it down and they check it the entire 2 to 3 days you are in the hospital. When you get home you are supposed to keep recording the nursing sessions until the nurses stop making home visits. A nurse comes to your home every couple of days to weigh the baby and make sure breastfeeding is going well.

MilkBands would be so useful while in the hospital and for the first few days at home. Of course, I forgot to pack my MilkBands bracelet to bring to the hospital. I kept forgetting to write down the times and often had to think back and try to remember what time I started feeding my son. I had my mom or husband write it down for me as I always had my hands full, holding the baby and trying to compress extra milk into his mouth. Sometimes I was alone in the room and had no way to write it down so my log was not that accurate.

If I had had the bracelet I could have just slid the markers along the bracelet when I was alone and could have easily written it down at a later time.

It took much reading of the instructions to be able to understand how the tracking system worked on the bracelet however. I still find it confusing on how you can track the length of feeding and the time of the last feeding on the same bracelet. I used it for keeping track of which breast I last fed on (by flipping the bracelet around) and the time of last feeding (by placing the markers on the hour and minute indicators).

I think MilkBands are great for any first time breastfeeders who are worried about keeping everything recorded, for people who want to nurse on a fixed schedule and for in the hospital if the staff wants you to keep accurate nursing records. I used it the first few days at home but after I knew my son was gaining weight well and that the nurse would not be coming back to check my logs I did not use it anymore or write down my nursing sessions. I feed on demand whenever he wants so it is not realistic for me to keep track of each 5 or 10 minute feed.

Udder Covers Nursing Pads

The gift set also came with 4 cotton nursing pads. They work really well for during the day. There is no waterproof layer so they will soak through if you have a big let down or at night after not nursing for a few hours. This happened to me a couple of times so I used them only during the day after that. During the day they were great. They are discreet inside of my nursing bra as the outline is not very visible. They wash and dry easily and quickly. They stay quite soft even if air-dried.

  9. I love there are 6 color options for the UDDER Covers, and that the nursing bands come in different colors as well. I wish the nurses has been so attentive to how the nursing was going for my Sister in law then maybe one of her children would not have had such severe failure to thrive

  11. I don't actually have a nursing cover myself. Like you, I'm fine with breastfeeding wherever however I always did feel a little exposed when nursing in public. Not sure why I never ended up picking one up, but now's a good time w/ little one #2 on the way! This one looks easy to use, cute prints and I love that it appears to stay in place nicely w/ the rigid neckline and straps.

  15. I love the milk bands bracelet. I've never seen anything like that. Even at 8 mo there are still times, when I'm like "When did I feed you last?"
