{My Review}

I LOVE Bummis covers. They are my favorite covers. I started using prefold cloth diapers for the first time with my newborn. I love prefolds now and I think the main reason I love them is because we never have leaks when using the Bummis covers. All of the all-in-one diapers I tried with my newborn leaked.

I can get a very good fit and the elastics/bindings do NOT leave red marks on my son's chubby thighs. Both covers, the Original Wrap and the Super Lite are size small. The smalls fit from 7-8 lbs. They both fit my son from birth but did not go below the umbilical cord stump. I waited until he was one week old and the stump had fallen off to use them full time.

I love that Bummis is so local to me. I live just 1.5 hours away from where these covers were made! It feels great to be able to support North American made products and companies.

{The Original Wrap}

I loved the original wrap on my newborn. It is very light weight and the lyrca bindings are extremely stretchy. You can see in the photo below that even at 2 months and 13+ lbs the tabs can be stetched until they are touching, making the cover snug around the legs.

2 months, 13+ lbs with a Snappied prefold

With a tri-folded newborn sized prefold the Original Wrap is very trim between the legs, which is great for a newborn. I like the wide aplix waist band front panel and the cross over tabs for getting a snug fit. The large aplix panel is very soft so if your baby has belly rolls the panel won't chafe like some other aplix.

It fits to 13 lbs so I was able to wear it on my son for 2 full months. It still fits (I took the photo above just yesterday) but I think I would get wicking because some of the bigger size prefolds he wears now sticks out of the cover.

I really wish this cover had laundry tabs because it annoys me when diapers get stuck together in the wash. The aplix snags on itself and other diapers if not securely attached to the cover before washing. I attached it with the cover inside out for washing and it did not come undone in the washer. The edges of the cover does show snags from the aplix as you can see in the photo below.

Some pilling/snags on the edges from the applix.

I love that the cover has a wipe clean interior, you would not need many of these covers to make a complete newborn stash. Great money saver!

{The Super Lite Wrap}

The Super Lite fit from birth, my son was 8 lbs 14 oz and still fits him perfectly now at 13+ lbs. The wide elastics keeps everything in and covers fitted diapers very well. The cover is supposed to fit until 17lbs and I have no doubt that it will as my son still has room to grow.

I like the front flap for laying in a tri-folded prefold. It keeps the insert in place very well. I like this feature for when my husband changes diapers, especially. It is easy for him and I don't need to worry that he didn't tuck in the prefold's edges.

The laundry tabs and aplix in general are very strong. The aplix does not come undone on its own and there has been no curling of the tabs which happens with some aplix. I never used to like aplix, I am a snaps-girl but for newborns I've discovered that aplix gets the best fit.

Since the aplix closures on these Bummis covers are such good quality the resale value will be great since they are still in excellent condition. One of the first questions asked by buyers of second hand diapers is: "Is the aplix still in good shape?" It makes a huge difference in the price you can ask for your diapers.

I found the Original Wrap less bulky on my newborn but it did not fit as long as the Super Lite. I think having each of them is ideal for diapering a newborn and they also offer newborn sizes if you have small babies. The newborn size fits starting at 4 lbs! I believe prefolds and Bummis covers are an excellent newborn cloth combo. If I have another baby this will make up the majority of my newborn stash.

  5. I used the Bummis super brights and super whisper wraps on my last baby and I really liked them but I am a snap person. SO glad that they have snap versions of some of their covers now. I really like that the covers do not leave red marks on baby.

  15. I'd love to try these. Never had much interest when I was first doing my CD research but I've read so much about how pre-folds are so under-rated. I wanna give em a try now!

  19. I am also a snap girl, but I am discovering the benefits of aplix. I like that you can get such a good fit and it is also faster when you're diapering a squirmy toddler. Not so great when they learn how to take it off though. It sounds like these fit well around the legs, something I've had trouble with in some of my diapers since my son has such chubby thighs.
