The sock monkey print is so cute on this newborn diaper, it even came with coordinating cloth wipes. I was able to get a good fit from my son's birth. It did not fit underneath the umbilical cord stump so I waited to use it until the cord fell of at one week old.
He was 8 lbs 14 oz which is right in the mid-weight range of this diaper. It was nice and snug around the legs and waist. However, it often leaked around the legs and at the back. The micro-fleece lining sticks out of the legs and back of the diaper and I believe this caused wicking (a transfer of liquid from wet fabric to a dry fabric). I adjusted the fit to see if it would stop the leaks but it did not. No poo ever leaked out though.
I like that the diaper has a micro-fleece lining. My oldest son always gets rashes unless he has a stay-dry fabric against his bum. So I prefer to use micro-fleece on my newborn as well, just in case.
The lining is a dark brown which I think is awesome. I've never had a diaper with a colored interior. This is fantastic for the resale value of your newborn diapers as there will be no stains!
It is really interesting that this diaper is an all-in-one diaper AND a pocket diaper. It is neat that you can add absorbancy. This would be very useful for a one-size diaper. My 2 year old is a super soaker so it would be great to be able to add extra inserts. At the newborn stage I don't think you would need to add extra but it is good to have the option.
The diaper has 4 snaps on each wing. They are quite tough to snap and unsnap. They loosened up a little while using them. You definitely don't need to worry about the diaper coming undone on its own.
As with all of the AIOs that I have tried, it takes a long time to dry. It takes two hours in my dryer. I have an old inefficient dryer though. I turned the diaper inside-out so the soaker could dry more easily and that helped a little. I think the diaper would only need one bamboo soaker rather than the two that is included. For a newborn I'm sure one would be sufficient and that would lower drying time.
The Little Green Bean diaper is nice and trim. There is no bulky fabric or excess snaps to deal with. The weight range of this newborn diaper is 6 to 10 lbs. My son was almost 9 lbs at birth but I still had a month of good use out of it. Even at 6 weeks old and 11.5 lbs he could still wear the diaper but I cannot snap all 8 snaps because of his chubby thighs.
I was also sent two coordinating monkey print cloth wipes. They are 7 by 7 inches square. They are a bit larger than my hand and very soft. The two layers of flannel allow for easy clean up of big messes but are still delicate enough for a tiny newborn bum. The flannel print faded a bit in the wash but the serged edges are still in perfect condition. The sewing has not been affected at all by the repeated washings.
Little Green Bean is a great shop for purchasing your newborn and one-size cloth diapers. The outer flannel fabric allows for a wide selection of prints. All diapers, wipes and wetbags are hand-made. I would love to try their AI2s with snap in soakers. They look awesome.
