{My Review}
Overnight Flow Cloth Pad
The first thing I noticed when wearing the WeeEssentials overnight pad was the rigidity. The pad is quite stiff. I believe this is caused by the bamboo and PUL inner layers. It was not super comfortable to wear for long periods of time because of this stiffness. This is the first cloth pad that I have tried with a waterproof PUL interior and bamboo core so maybe I am just not used to it. I find many bamboo inserts in cloth diapers to be stiff also.
This pad did not leak! The bamboo/PUL combo may make it stiff but it does work very well. It absorbed well and did not go through to my underwear. Even the wings have a waterproof lining to prevent transfer. The overnight pad worked very well postpartum.
I love the ingenious idea to sew a groove in the middle of the pad to direct flow to the center absorbancy. It worked great and kept the flow away from the edges.
I think these pads are great for wearing while you are away from home because you can rely on them not to soak through. I wouldn't wear them for lazing comfortably around the house, however.
I think it is so fun to be able to custom design your cloth pads. You could go all out with funky prints and colors because there is nothing more personal in my opinion then cloth menstrual pads. You could make them entirely your own.WeeEssentials has a large number of fabric choices on its Facebook page.
Nursing Pads
I found the nursing pads great from WeeEssentials. They are nice and big and absorb a lot of milk. I wore these often at night and occasionally I would soak the pad and the excess milk would run down my non-nursing breast. I leak like crazy when feeding my baby at night because he sleeps for long periods before waking to eat.
I also just discovered that I was wearing the pads wrong at times. The print is supposed to go in against your breast and the white side out. All of the absorbancy is on the printed side, then PUL, then white cotton. I knew this, I had read it on the tag but I kept forgetting. I now realize this was causing the leaking as the milk would go through the white cotton, hit the PUL and then have nowhere to go but out of the pad. Candice from WeeEssentials was very helpful in helping me discover the reason for the leaking.
The outline of the pads showed through my shirt if I was not wearing a padded nursing bra. The pads are 5 inches in diameter so they are noticeable. Most of my bras have some padding so this wasn't a big deal for me but it is something to keep in mind if you don't have any padded bras.
The edges of the pads are not serged, they are cut with pinking shears so after much washing and drying the edges unravel to the stitches. The sewing is still very strong, the edges have just frayed so they no longer have the even look from the above picture. The colored print faded but not too much.
| After 2 months of continuous use. |
I really liked these nursing pads and would definitely buy more. They are great for overnight and absorb much more than other cloth pads I have. These pads are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I love that you can choose the prints for the nursing pads also. It would be fun to get a matching set of menstrual and nursing pads!
I love the loyalty program offered by WeeEssentials (details below). It is a fantastic way to reward customers. It is great when the money you spend at a shop gets you even more products. It is one of the highest yielding programs I've seen. It would not take many purchases to earn free stuff!

i love that the pads are made of cotton & bamboo- i wonder if a few washings & dryings with dryer balls might help soften them up a bit? i also think it's great that they are flannel-lined to help keep them in place! that is one of my pet peeves with cloth pads- having to reach down my pants & adjust them!!! :D thanks for the great review!

I love that they are made of bamboo and that they didn't leak. I have never used bamboo but I wonder if after a few washes they would loosen a little? Beth Rees
ReplyDeleteThe nursing pads sound great! Especially for night. Since they seem thick, I think that for me, they would be best for night time use - I leaked a lot at night.
ReplyDeleteI like that the PUL goes all the way through the wings. I also like the seam in the middle to keep things where they should be. Krystal Glick
