{My Review}
I love that BALM! Baby products are all made in the USA with the majority of their ingredients coming right from Hawaii. I have been trying to steer my family towards only all natural products and BALM! Baby is such a great choice. I love how thoroughly the THinc. company has immersed itself in the green, Eco-conscious world.
BALM! Baby diaper balm/1st aid smells nice. It has a very strong scent which I recognize as mostly tea tree oil. The texture is quite gritty with little sand-like particles throughout.

My oldest son is very prone to diaper rashes. We were using cloth diapers full time and he seemed to always have sores on his poor bum. I was always trying new diaper rash creams. I have heard many great things about BALM! Baby diaper balm but I am sad to say that it did not clear up his sores.
I reapplied the diaper balm from BALM! Baby at every diaper change but it did not improve the rash by much. There was a slight improvement but not much. These were big open sores however, not the average diaper rash. I actually used almost the entire container over the course of a week trying to treat this rash.
I have discovered that my son was getting ammonia burns from sleeping 12 hours in a cloth diaper. He has very sensitive skin and the cloth trapped the ammonia against his skin creating sores.
The only thing that cleared up these sores were petroleum jelly and disposable diapers. Ugg! Not green or environmentally friendly at all but they worked. I have continued to use disposable diapers at night to prevent the ammonia burn and use cloth during the day. So far no more nasty burns.
If my son starts to get red skin on his bum, I use BALM! Baby as a preventative and it works well. The oily nature creates a barrier to keep the urine away from his skin so it can heal.
I did not try it for all of the other possible uses since I was using it as a diaper rash cream. I did not think it was very hygienic to apply the balm to his bum with my finger and then use the same container and balm on his face or other body parts. I am sure there must be germ transfer from his bum to the container. They also sell BALM! Baby: Spray that Bottom, which is a spray-able diaper rash balm. The spray would be a great way to prevent germ transfer.
I would recommend having two containers. One as a diaper balm and one as a 1st aid treatment.
BALM! Baby did not cure my son's nasty diaper rash but his was a very extreme case. For mild rashes and as a preventative barrier it worked well.
I would love to try this product as a 1st Aid treatment. The gritty texture would be great for treating cradle cap and peeling newborn skin. I'm not sure how nice it would feel being rubbed into a sunburn, however.
THinc. seems like such a great company with all natural and American made products. I would recommend THinc. and BALM! Baby to others. There are so many awesome products to choose from!

I like that the Balm is packaged in glass or recycled aluminum containers. And I'm also curious to see how it would work on minor skin irritations. Anne Sweden

Aloha! This is Malena from BALM! Baby:
ReplyDeleteTo answer any questions or confusions:
There is no contamination happening in the jar; it is PACKED full of what I like to call "the GOOD anti-s" (anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral), etc. The only thing that MAY contaminate is if it is a YEAST related diaper rash, then you want to keep EVERYTHING separate from the rash (yeast is highly contagious).
BALM! Baby Diaper Balm is not just for preventative, but for regular diaper rash as well. It is also perfect for 1st aid.
If your son had open sores, it was beyond regular diaper rash. Our MAD RASH formula has ALWAYS knocked that out of the water; for my two boys & MANY families (per their reviews). At that point, you need a barrier, that is where the ZINC in MAD RASH comes in (:
You should try MAD RASH..do you have any? Always use a LINER with Cloth Diapers tho!
Sometimes you will see little "grains" in the diaper balm. This is due to it cooling & heating many times (; Doesn't harm anything & should melt right on skin it's being put on (;
Love that it is USA-made!

ReplyDeleteThats great! I did not realize that you could use in on bug bites. my daughter has two bites on her knees and I have been looking for something safe to put on them. I will have to get some of this
ReplyDeleteWhoa bug bites. Then I need this just for me!
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree with your entire post & found it very interesting. We do the same thing you do - disposables w/diaper rash cream @ night, cloth during the day. I hate it & love that this could help keep my kids in cloth full-time. I didn't know that the diaper rashes were caused by ammonia burns... no wonder it's so painful. I love that this would be able to create a barrier between the skin & the wet, ammonia-filled cloth. Thank you for the post & for the info & chance to win. Good luck, everyone!
