{My Review}
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Messages from Heaven is a very hope filled book. This book helps provide faith that our loved ones that pass on are still with us, still love us and still take care of us even though they are no longer on this Earth.
The book made me feel a little melancholy as it is filled with stories of death and people losing their family members or friends. The stories of the deaths of children really hit me hard. Since I have become a mother every story I hear about a child makes me envision my own children and it affects me greatly. Does this happen to you also?
Some of the stories are about hope such as the story in the To Heaven and Back section where a woman's mother was declared dead at the hospital and the family was thinking about funeral plans when a nurse found a heartbeat while removing the monitors. She had been 15 minutes without oxygen to her brain so it was expected that she would not regain consciousness. Not only did she come back to life, she got her life back! She opened her eyes, spoke and told her family about her otherworldly experience.
I really liked the Signs from Beyond section. This section is filled with little wonders that let the mourners know their family is still with them such as a double rainbow at a wedding, a sketch of an angel appearing, or a blue iris blooming in November. These are the signs we look for when we are grieving and it is nice to read stories that prove they can be found.
Another story in the An Angel Told Me section shows how our loved ones watch out for us even after they are gone. One woman was just heading into a gas station to buy a snack when her mother's voice and face suddenly appeared in her mind saying, "NO". She heeded her warning and got back into her car, minutes later the gas station attendant came running out to say he had just been robbed at gunpoint. If the woman had gone in. she would have walked right into the middle of an armed robbery!
Many of these stories are sad but they all give comfort as well. They let you know that when you lose someone they are not completely gone and if you are lucky you will see a sign that all is well.
This book would make a very comforting gift to someone in mourning. If you have lost someone close to you recently or years ago, it will connect you to others that have lost and provide hope for a connection with your loved ones that have passed. The nice thing is that if you have lost someone and have not received a sign, it does not mean that you won't. In many of these stories, people found their connections years after the death.

ReplyDeleteI used to love reading the Chicken Soup books. I haven't read one in a while, but this one looks perfect for my aunt who lost her daughter. I think I'll order it for her. Thanks for sharing.
