I think the Mommy I'm Here Child Locator is a very smart idea. You attach the teddy bear receiver to your child and keep the small transmitter in your pocket or attached to your keys. If your child is starting to wander away, you press the transmitter button once and the teddy bear will chirp. This will get your child's attention and remind them to stay close or help you locate them if they are just out of sight.
If you press the transmitter button a second time, a loud beeping alarm will sound. The website gives the comparison to an alarm clock, which is 80 db. The Child Locator alarm is 86 db. It will stop beeping on its own after approximately 30 seconds. If you press it again, the alarm will sound (not the chirping). You have to turn the teddy bear off and then on again to reset it.
(Watch my video to hear the different chirp and beep alarms.)
I like that the child receiver can be placed on the belt, shoe, wrist or ankle of the child. With children, options are always important. I had planned to place it on my 2 year old son's wrist. The first time he wore it on his wrist with no problem, after that however, he would not let me put it on his wrist or his ankle.
I was able to attach it to his belt more easily. He did not notice it as much so wasn't bothered by it. It would be nice if the teddy bear receiver were smaller. It is a little unwieldy for small children.
My son is very independent and adventurous. In stores, restaurants and other public avenues he would run off and investigate things if he were not confined. So, we almost always keep him in a stroller or baby carrier for these kinds of trips. He is just too busy. We have to chase him everywhere and with an infant to also care for it is too hard to allow him much freedom in public. Therefore, I did not use the Child Locator very often because there was no need since he was in a stroller at all times.
As he gets older and can walk without running away, I will use the Child Locator more. It is great to have that extra safety measure in case I lose sight of him or if he slips away from me. At 2 years old, it is a given that he will take off though. He doesn't understand that if it beeps he should come back to me. Maybe with practice he would learn to but I think he would forget about it as soon as something catches his attention.
It would have been great to have had the Child Locator this summer when we went on vacation. We went to Story Land in New Hampshire. This is an amusement park for young children based on different fairy tales. At this park we let our son walk so he could play, explore and go on rides. My husband was very busy chasing him around! Even though he was never out of our sight or reach, it would have been great to have the Locator alarm on him, just in case.
Any time your child is not confined in a busy area, the Child Locator would come in handy. We are traveling out West in November so we will have to spend some time in airports. I will definitely use the Child Locator for traveling. I don't know about your kids but my 2 year old has to run around to burn off energy. So after a 4.5 hour flight he will not want to be strapped into a stroller. Thus, I will be happy to have the extra security of the Child Locator.
As my mother always says, "Better Safe Than Sorry!"

This looks really neat! I love the design, something very appealing to a child <3
ReplyDeleteI love how it will beep if the child gets too far away and they should learn to head back toward the parent.
ReplyDeleteMy child isn't walking yet, but I know that once he does and we start going to parks, I will be paranoid about his location at all times! This would be great to make sure I know where is his always.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea but I wish it was smaller

It sounds like this only really works if your child aimlessly wanders which as you did, an ounce of prevention seems to be better.
ReplyDeletei thinks its a $30 well spent for more peace of mind and safety

I like the set up that the teddy bear receiver is attached to your child's wrist or ankle with the mounting strap. Hopefully it is not easy to remove. Then the parent has the transmitter attaches to your key chain or fits easily in your pocket and can be used from 150 ft away
ReplyDeletei like that idea we had a little kid who all most got kidnaped by some punk kid till i grab the kid if he had the
ReplyDeletebear on we would of been able to make sure he was ok

ReplyDeleteI like that you can attach the device to the child's shoe; so that it is not easily visible to a potential perpetrator who may try to remove any locating device.
